Universal Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association
15 October 2008
Call to order
· The
regular meeting of the Universal City Citizens Police Academy Alumni
Association was held on Wednesday 15 October 2008 at the UC Public Works
Building. There were 27 members and 1
UCPD Liaison Officer present.
· President
Gary Stein called the meeting to order at 6:35 pm and Art Goss led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Guest Speaker
- Sandy
Sullivan, Vice President of Fraud Management for Frost Bank was the guest
speaker. She spoke about her
responsibilities as well as several fraud cases that she has handled. Ms. Sullivan provided informational
materials for the Association.
Business Meeting
- The
minutes from the 17 September 2008 meeting were approved as corrected.
Officer’s Reports
- Treasurer’s
Report- Tom Ingle announced the status of the checking and savings
accounts at RBFCU. There was a $540
deposit and $648 payout since the last meeting. The remaining balance in checking is
$3,390.00.
- There
was about 75 volunteer hours put in by the members in September, but
there are a lot of volunteer hours that have not been submitted.
- The
IRS Tax Exempt ID number has approved.
- President’s
Report- Gary Stein announced that there are officially 58 members in the
Association, and 1 inactive member.
Committee Reports
- Neighborhood
Watch: Dan Hancock
- Brochures
for NW were passed out during National Night Out. There is a need for volunteers to
recruit Block Captains.
- Veteran’s
Day Parade: John Steinbauer announced that the Association was approved to
participate. On October 24, the
City will provide more detailed information about the parade line-up. Wolf volunteered to pick up a car from
Jordan Ford and drive it in the parade.
Kris England was authorized $50 to purchase candy for the parade. The UCPD needs volunteers to direct
traffic during parade.
- Blue
Santa: Garry Thompson updated the members on the overhaul of the Blue
Santa project. Garry visited
several schools which have various ways of handling information on
underprivileged children. H.E.B.
was willing to give gift cards, but the manager needs to check on the
amount of donations he can give do to overwhelming needs this year. Mr. Gatti’s fundraiser is on hold. Garry developed an application for
families to file for their children, it is written and English and will be
translated into Spanish. Garry also
built a money-drop box and it will be placed at UC City Hall for cash
donations. Any members willing to
solicit funds are needed.
- Garry
will make an assessment about the final stages of the program this
year. Proceeding with the event
this year will be determined at the November 19, 2008 meeting.
- T-Shirts: Tom Ingle will be placing another order
for T-shirts this Friday, October 17, 2008. Anyone who would like to have a shirt
please contact Tom.
- Publicity:
An article on the REAP Award and Dispatchers will hopefully be published
in next months UC Newsline.
- Fundraising:
Mike Porter has stepped down as the Fundraising Chairperson. The Fundraising Committee has agreed to
work together to continue projects.
- Winter
Festival: Kris England announced there will be a meeting in January for
the Winter Festival in 2009.
- Entertainment
Books: There are about 20 books to sell.
Anyone interested in selling the books please see Wolf or
Elfie. The UCCPAAA website also
allows people to purchase the books online.
- National
Night Out: The first copy of the DVD for NNO was delivered during the
meeting. Kris England will be
sending the DVD in for the national contest.

Police Report- Police Liaison Lieutenant Fernando Parra wanted to
formally “Thank” the Association for helping with NNO.

Ammo Purchase: Ed announced that the CPA class
used about half of the ammo provided to them at the shooting range. The Association spent $273.00 on the
ammo. There should be enough for the
next class.
Unfinished Business
·
Elections: Wolf announced the nominees for Board
of Directors. There was only one
candidate running for each office- (President- Ed Sheeran, Vice-President- Leon
Franklin, Secretary- Kris England, and Treasurer- Tom Ingle).

The Award for Crime Fighter of the Year will be
submitted by December 15, 2008. The
Association agreed to present a certificate to the recipient of the award.
Closing.
- The
next meeting will be Wednesday November 19, 2008

meeting was adjourned at 8:58pm
