
CALL TO ORDER:
· Ed called the meeting to order at 6:34 pm.
· There were 31 members present. Lt.Parra was also in attendance.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE:
· Led by Art Goss.
KARIN HEBBERT (WOLF AND ELFI'S DAUGHTER)
· Karin reflected on her father's life. Shared how he touched other peoples' lives with his sense of humor, dedication and caring concern.
COSTCO REPRESENTATIVE:
· Provided info. on COSTCO memberships.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
· The minutes of the 19 August 2009 regular meeting were approved as submitted.
CONTINUING EDUCATION:
· Membership watched a Best Defense video.
TREASURER'S REPORT:
· Tom reported that there has been little financial activity during the last month. The regular account has a balance of $6895.00 and Blue Santa has $2338.00.
PRESIDENT'S REPORT:
· Freedom Walk: Ed thanked all members who volunteered at the Freedom Walk. He also expressed appreciation to Leon who attended the "wrap up." He added that our comments were well received.
· Picnic: Ed expressed that the picnic for the police officers, admin and dispatch was well attended and the food was great! We received 2 letters of appreciation from attendees.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
· NNO: Kris reported that volunteers are needed to ride along on the caravans and hand out brochures or take pictures. A sign-up sheet was passed around.
· Neighborhood Watch: Dan reported that there will be a second annual neighborhood watch workshop on 19 October in the training room at the Police Dept. The first half of the workshop will be informative and the second half will allow the block captains to exchange ideas with each other.
· Veterans' Day Parade: The parade will take place on November 14 and Jerry and Felicia will work out the details.
· Officer Deployments: Officer Brian Tyler is being deployed but for the time being will be at Lackland. Officer Morales is deployed in the Middle East. Ed intends to get his mailing address so we can send him a care package.
· Gift Wrapping: Mike Porter not present so tabled until next month.
· Police Dept. Bicycles: Leon reported that the PD bikes are 7-10 years old and have had no regular maintenance. He would like to have them serviced at Action Bikes. Labor costs would be around $100.00 and parts would be discounted 20% off of retail price. The average cost of repair would be $140.00 per bike, with the total cost being around $420.00. Jerry recommended we approve $500.00. Garry added that Action Bikes was very generous with Blue Santa last year. $500.00 was approved unanimously.
POLICE DEPT. REPORT:
· Fernando reported that there are plans to put a plaque, in memory of Wolf, in the front lobby. He added that the PD would like to hang a picture of each CPA class in the PD hallway. Electronic ticket writers have been purchased.
Fernando shared that Officer Hermes will be leaving for a job in Arizona. Anthony is having medical problems and is not on full duty.
He added that home burglaries are almost nonexistent
NEW BUSINESS:
· Wolf Koehle Fund: Tom reported that we have received around $2,000.00 in memorials for Wolf. Discussed making a list of possible items that could be purchased and give to Elfi to make the decision. Jerry emphasized that we take our time, have it be something enduring, that will not become outdated. Lt Parra suggested a scholarship to help someone who has not gone to the Police Academy but would like to become a UCPD officer.
· Nominating Committee for 2010 Officers: Lane volunteered to be chair since he was a member last year. Sakita and Diana volunteered to serve with him.
· Blue Santa: Ken reported that the location for the Blue Santa party is scheduled for the Golf Course. Boxes are being decorated and will encourage donation of new, unwrapped toys.
· Fingerprinting: Tom reported that Christ the King Lutheran Church is interested in having child fingerprinting on 16 Oct.
