August Meeting Minutes

ARRIVAL  AND GO THROUGH BUFFET LINES:

QUILT DRAWING:   Chief Spear drew the winning ticket which belonged to one of our members, Toby.

CALL TO ORDER:

·    Ed called the meeting to order at 6:44 pm.

·    There were 44 members and  Chief Spear, Lt Parra and Officer Bellamy in attendance.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE:

·    Led by Art Goss.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:

·    The minutes of the 15 July 2009 regular meeting minutes were approved as submitted.

TREASURER'S REPORT:

·    Tom reported that the treasurer's report was emailed to all members.  There were no questions or corrections and the report was approved unanimously.

PRESIDENT'S REPORT:

·    Ed thanked all who worked on the quilt raffle sale.

·    Freedom Walk:  Ed stated that council woman Beverly Volle was hoping 12 of our members could volunteer to assist in registration, traffic control and shirt sales.  Ed encouraged members to wear their green shirts and volunteer.

·    Ed recognized Eva for her article in the "Herald."  The article gives recognition to our business supporters and our organization.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS:

·    Summer Picnic:  Elfi stated that we're all set for the picnic and would like the first group of volunteers to show up at 2:00.  She would like a count of members who plan to attend.  She added that COSTCO was very generous this year.  New this year are 3 gift baskets that will be door prizes.  Invitations were sent to all business members, only one responded (Jana) and they were unable to attend.

·    NNO:  Kris reported that 35 block captains have registered their NNO block parties.  Approximately 2000 door hangers at a cost of $170. will need to be printed.  Members unanimously approved spending the $170.  Kris added that Target came through with two $25. gift cards that will be given to the winners of the poster contest.  Volunteers are needed to video, photograph and hand out flyers on NNO.  City Council Meeting dates to keep in mind are Sep. 15 when the Proclamation will be read and Oct. 7 when poster contest winners will be recognized.

·    CID Assistance:  Leon reported that CID would like our assistance working on cold cases by tracking down witnesses.  Al and Judy have volunteered.

·    Bike Patrol:  Leon stated that there is one officer on each shift doing bike patrol (George-days, Dave-swing and Matt-nights.)  The bikes are 10 to 12 years old and need to be checked over and repaired.

·    Blue Santa:  Ken praised MJ and Garry for the wonderful job they did organizing Blue Santa last year.  Matt will be Santa again this year and Gatti's hopes to double their donation.  Ken is looking for volunteers to help with gift buying and refreshments.  Felicia is in charge of gift wrapping.  The event is scheduled for December 20th.

POLICE DEPT. REPORT:

·    Officer Jeremy Bellamy:  Jeremy passed out badge tattoos that the Schertz PD is handing out to kids.  Jeremy looked into ordering them for UCPD.  The cost would be $186. for 1000 tattoos, $400. for 5000 tattoos and $635 for 10,000 tattoos.  Membership voted unanimously to buy 5000 tattoos for $400.

·    PD Report:  Fernando reported that the PD caught the individual who painted the graffiti in Coronado Village.  He also relayed that on Aug. 13 a UCCPAAA member (Diana Coutier) saw someone hide a leaf blower in some bushes.  She got a good description of the individual and called the PD.  They were able to apprehend him.  Good job Diana!!

·    PD Addition:  Fernando reported that the addition at the PD  has been completed.  The next CPA class will be in the training room at the PD.  The class will begin in March and will be limited to 15 attendees.  UCCPAAA is also welcome to hold meetings there.

·    Veterans' Day Parade:  Fernando requested traffic control assistance for the upcoming Veterans' Day Parade.  Twenty to thirty volunteers are needed.

·    Police Officer Deployments:  Fernando stated that Officer Morales is currently deployed in the Middle East and Officer Tyler will soon be deploying.  Membership discussed offering assistance to their families, if needed, and sending care packages to the officers.

NEW BUSINESS:

·    Gift Wrapping:  Mike Porter will arrange Christmas gift wrapping at RAFB for Friday Dec. 18.  Last year we made $400.  Nell volunteered to begin making bows.

·    Brochures:  Dan asked for suggestions as to good locations for displaying our brochures.

·    Member Concerns:  Felicia reported that Jane Schumacher continues to have health problems and suggested that if you are aware of others with health problems let someone know  so we could send cards, etc.

NEXT MEETING:

·    September 16, 2009.

·    Costco will be there.
