Community Programs
Each year our association provides
hundreds of hours of community and police department support.
We wish to thanks all our volunteers, those who contributed
in the past and those continuing to support our volunteer missions.
NATIONAL
NIGHT OUT:
Our organization contacts residents to assist in
creating block parties, providing materials and helping advertise this
event. Our membership provides volunteers to be part of the
police delegation that goes to each block party in Universal
City. Our city has been nationally recognized for
the success of its program. The
Police Department has delegated the responsibilities of NNO
registration to the Universal City Citizens Police Academy Alumni
Association. Please contact the organization
at 658-5353,
Ext. 526 with the location of your party or if you have any questions
concerning NNO or other city-wide crime prevention topics. If
you
prefer, you may contact our National Night Out Coordinator at NNOC.
BLUE
SANTA:
Blue
Santa is a police program designed to provide Christmas presents for
those children who might otherwise go without. Our
organization
helps plan and raise over $3000 annually for the program.
Over 50
children and their families receive presents and food at a special
Blue Santa party.
NEIGHBORHOOD
WATCH:
Our
organization assists volunteer Neighborhood Watch Block Captains to
establish crime prevention initiatives in their local neighborhoods.
There are currently over 60 volunteer block captains or points of contact in the
city.
We provide briefings, handouts and other crime
prevention
resources to the neighborhoods and continuation training for
the block captiains. If you are interested in starting a Neighborhood
Watch program in your area or if you would simply like more information
on Neighborhood Watch programs, call the Universal City Citizens Police
Academy Alumni Association (658-5353, Ext. 526) or e-mail our Neighborhood Watch Coordinator.
Further crime prevention information is also available at
the website for the National Crime Prevention
Council.
VETERANS'
DAY PARADE:
Our organization assists other organizations in
setting up the parade. We also provide volunteers to augment
the police department in traffic management, assist McGruff and hand
out candies to the children. Our volunteers also march in the
parade and provide handouts and brochures regarding safety for
the children of our city.
FINGERPRINTING
OF CHILDREN:
Our
organization provides volunteers to help promote fingerprinting of our
children in our city. During these events we also distribute
handouts about various police programs within our city to assist
families in the safekeeping of their children. Children's
fingerprinting sessions are held periodically during the year at
various business locations and civic events.
CITIZENS
POLICE ACADEMY:
Our
organization promotes public awareness of this free opportunity for our
citizens. We provide a Registrar to process all
Academy
applicants and maintain a student roster. The registrar also
provides administrative support for each course. Our
members act as witnesses in crime scene investigation,
suspects in
hostage situations and other roles in various training scenarios.
POLICE
DEPARTMENT ADMINISTRATION SUPPORT:
Our
organization provides volunteers for administrative duties
within
the Police Department. The intent is to assist with various
labor
intensive tasks that free the officers and staff to perform other
important duties. Our tasks include such things as filing
warrants, mailing house alarm permits, court liason support and researching grant
opportunities.
Members must be trained and certified before handling any
sensitive information.
